City University Malaysia

City University Malaysia is a private university located in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia.  It was established in 1984 (originally as a community college) and achieved full university status later. The university has multiple campuses: Petaling Jaya, Cyberjaya, Johor Bahru and Kota Kinabalu.

What they offer

1.They provide a wide range of programmes: Foundation, Diploma, Bachelor (Hons), Master & PhD.

Example of degree programmes: Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) under School of Business & Management; Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) under School of Information Technology.

2. They also have Open & Distance Learning (ODL) options: flexible online programmes for students who cannot be on campus.

Strengths / Good points

Affordability: The tuition fees are comparatively lower than many Western/major universities which can be good for Bangladeshi students on budget.

Multiple campuses & diversity: With four campuses and students from many nationalities, there is some international environment.

Industry-driven focus: They emphasise employability and market‐oriented programmes.

Flexible study modes: With ODL and on-campus options, students can choose the mode that suits their situation.

Considerations / Potential Weaknesses

1. While it is recognised by Malaysian authorities, student feedback is mixed in terms of reputation and international recognition.

2. For students planning to work or continue education abroad, the prestige of the university might matter, and some forums indicate concerns about how the degree is viewed internationally.

3. When comparing with top‐tier private or public universities in Malaysia (or in Asia more broadly), City U may not rate as high in rankings or research output.

4. Living costs and total cost (tuition + living) still matter. According to one source: undergraduate programmes ~ MYR 24,000-35,000/year.

Suitability for Bangladeshi Students

Given your role (Study abroad & Digital Marketing consultant) and your target students from Bangladesh, here’s how City U might be positioned:

1. For students on a tighter budget who need a private university that is relatively affordable and offers good options in Malaysia, City U could be a valid choice.

2. For students whose priority is cost and flexibility (especially if they are more local/regional and intend to work in Malaysia or the region), City U may serve well.

3. For students whose goal is to go globally (e.g., to highly competitive Master’s abroad, or to work in countries where credentials are strict), you might want to compare City U with more highly ranked institutions to see which will provide the best outcomes.
